W.O.T.S. CREW

ONE OF REAL TIME RESCUE’S BIGGEST GOALS IS TO KEEP ANIMALS IN THEIR HOMES, WITH THEIR FAMILY & OUT OF THE SHELTER BY PROVIDING RESOURCES DIRECTLY TO THOSE IN NEED. We do this primarily through providing basic essentials like food, leashes/collars, beds/blankets and flea medication as well routine and emergency vet care to animals living in low income households or with their unhoused owner. Here you will find just a few of the dogs we have helped over the years to stay happy, healthy and with their people, thanks to our fabulous group of loyal supporters, community partners and committed volunteers!

Although one of our most trusted vets removed all of D.O.G.’s tumors, a biopsy did come back positive for a skin cancer. We will be sponsoring a follow up visit with an Oncologist and will keep in contact with Kim so we can better support them both no matter what the future holds!

D.O.G.

(That’s Dee-Oh-Gee)

Real Time Rescue is partnered with trusted community organizers at Brown Bag Lady to hit the pavement together to help our unhoused neighbors in DTLA. While they hand out hot meals, clothing and hygiene kits, we provide dog supplies, animal education and offers of vet care to families in need. This is how we met Kim and D.O.G. His Mama didn't ask for any supplies; but was in desperate need of medical care for D.O.G., whose testicles were swollen and raw. He also had two small growths- one on his groin and one above his eye- that need to be removed. Within 48hrs we had Kim’s blessing to transport him to Anaheim Animal Care & Pet Hospital who took the absolute best care of him. After all his lumps and bumps (and testicles) were removed, it was clear from the number of surgical staples, that it would be crucial for him to stay at the vet for multiple days while healing.

We knew that D.O.G. was more than just a loving companion to Kim, but also helped her feel safe while living outdoors. Asking for him to stay at the vet for a week was not an ideal scenario, but she knew it was what was best. We’re thankful to Streetwatch LA who were able to help us communicate with her throughout the week AND bring her to visit him at the vet. Kim was shocked to see how happy and spunky he was post-surgery!

Getting this boy feeling his best was a TEAM effort, including not only volunteers on the ground, but also SO many of our online supporters who helped raise $2000 to cover his surgeries in just 72hrs. After recuperating at the vet and making friends with the staff, he was READY TO GO HOME to his family. Let’s just say their reunion is worth a watch: CLICK HERE.

D.O.G. UPDATE! Happy to report that each and every time we check in with this pup he is doing well and always excited to see us. We made a commitment to him and his Mama for the long haul- so rest assured we check in regularly to ensure he always has a warm bed and blanket, dog food and of course a toy or two!

DADDY & OCHO

A woman in our WOTS network reached out to let us know a woman and her two dogs needed help, quickly. An RTR board member met with her almost immediately supplying them with a large bag of much needed dog food, 2 beds, a blanket, harnesses, leashes, collars and flea meds!

REMEDY

RTR’s Board VP Summer Parker does A LOT of our direct outreach, so it wasn’t surprising when she met John and his bulldog Remedy one day in North Hollywood. Remedy was a gift from his sister because she said he “does better when he has a dog to take care of.” Many people who own an animal know the truth of that statement. And just because you don’t have a roof over your head, doesn’t make it any different. It was clear he loved this dog and was doing all he could for her. But Summer knew her followers would want to do more. After some quick personal fundraising, she secured this duo a tent, a sleeping bag, warm clothes and new shoes for John, plus warm blankets and big bags of kibble for the lovely remedy. We’re thankful to have such a strong leadership team to takes action when they know it is needed and loyal supporters who were at the ready to lend a hand to help in any way they could!

ALMA JEAN

This little lady has been part of the WOTS crew since she was just a few weeks old and we intend to keep up with Alma Jean throughout the rest of her life. She lives outdoors in North East LA with her Mama and we follow up with them regularly to ensure she is happy, healthy and well fed. We sponsored her puppy formula in the beginning, covered all of her puppy vaccinations, deworming, and will of course bring her to be spayed when the time is right…. oh and all she really wanted was a BASKET of TOYS, so we came through with those too! Stay tuned for more updates on this growing gal!

PRECIOUS

Photo Jan 07, 1 44 16 PM.jpg

We’re so happy to have met Precious when we did as she was suffering terribly from a giant cyst under her chin. Her family was considering surrendering her to the shelter since there was just NO WAY for them to cover the cost of the expensive procedure she needed. The shelter they contacted thankfully suggested they reach out to us for help and BAM our community showed up to make sure this girl got what she needed! We’ll be keeping up with her, but so far she is healing well & SO MUCH HAPPIER! We intend to keep close contact with her family to monitor any sign of regrowth of fluid (paws crossed there is none) & make sure she gets spayed too!

GIZMO

After having dropped supplies off to this old boy, a WOTS Volunteer reached out to the RTR Board knowing we may be able to help with medical care. Gizmo's dad lives in Section 8 Housing and survives off of only $200/month, so any vet services would be WAY out of budget. We immediately whisked him in for a full exam, bloodwork, x-rays & to have his tumors aspirated. The vet found over 20 tumors, lumps and skin tags on his body & x-rays showed a mass on his spleen. Unfortunately lab results also showed Mast Cell Cancer, and there is not much we can do except keep him comfortable and well fed as his dad has elected to forgo Chemotherapy. But Gizmo is eating, drinking and enjoying time with his dad pain free and we’ll be there for them both no matter the next steps!

JACOB

Jacob lives with her mom on the streets of Los Angeles. We met them on a cold day in December 2020 and provided both a bed and blanket. Now that she is part of our WOTS pack, we’ll be checking back in on her to support with any future supply or medical needs.

PUPPY PARTY

These two handsome brothers are a fav of one of our volunteers and he makes sure to check in on them often, leaving much needed food but also the good stuff like plush blankets, beds, harnesses AND TOYS! We here at RTR agree that every pup deserves to be well fed and have a little fun every once in a while.
We’ll be sure that these two have everything they need to they grow up big, strong & healthy!

RAMBO

Rambo was rescued by RTR in mid-2020 when the family RTR Adoptable MOOSE had originally been living with let us know a family member had left Rambo with them with no intention of returning. Knowing that he would now be doomed to be kept outside tied to the tree we had JUST sprung Moose from, we knew we had to do something- and fast! Not having an open foster home on such short notice, Morongo Basin Humane Society a no-kill shelter we have a. wonderful relationship with graciously agreed to take him in. After we had him all checked out and fixed up at our trusted Vet, we delivered him to Morongo and it wasn’t long before he got adopted! We’re ecstatic to report that Rambo is being the goodest boy for his new Pops. They are best buds and we couldn’t be happier that this handsome fella ended up in a home instead of tied to a tree. Happy Life Bud!

PAPA

This little pup came across our path having NEVER been vaccinated against any of the typical puppy threats like Parvovirus, Distemper, Bordetella or Rabies! We’ve made sure that our friends at Streetwatch LA have everything they need to bring this little guy in for all vaccinations and a neuter when it’s time!

BURNT

Burnt is under a year old and living in Hollywood, CA with her Dad in an encampment under the freeway. We have supplied her with food, a bed, blankets, leash, collar, harness, chew toys and an x-pen. Soon she will be seeing our trusted vet for the puppy works!

PRINCESS,
a true survivor.

In August 2020 we received a panicked call from a Los Angeles based homeless encampment familiar to us from previous outreach. A man unknown to the folks living there had just come through with an off-leash Pomeranian, and a 14” knife. All dogs living in this encampment were on leash, including two Pitbulls, Mama and her daughter Princess. Unsurprisingly all of the dogs living there were reactive to the little dog wandering around their space uninvited. We want to be clear in the telling of this that what happened next was absolutely unprovoked. Mama and Princess grew more agitated and continued to bark as the still unidentified man and his dog approached them, at which point he violently stabbed both dogs before threatening their owner when he attempted to intervene to save his dogs’ lives. We’re very saddened to say that as a result of Mama doing her best to protect Princess, she sustained the worst of the attack and did not survive. However, we were able to rush Princess to MASH who thankfully stitched her deep shoulder wound. Jacqueline Norvell, Founder of Brown Bag Lady, who has a trusted relationship with Princess’ owner through months of weekly meal service in the area, opened her doors to allow Princess to recuperate indoors. She lovingly took care of her wounds and hand fed this traumatized girl throughout the next two weeks. Once her stitches fully dissolved, we sponsored a spa treatment with Best Friends Grooming and returned her to her owner. Needless to say both Princess and her Dad were overjoyed at being reunited! You will find videos of her healing journey below.

CHIQUITA

She is 10 years old and lives outdoors with her Mama who has loved her since puppyhood. Everyone at the encampment, which serves as a temporary home for them both, rely on Chiquita for both companionship and protection. Unfortunately this beauty had a large growth on her mouth that was leading to trouble eating, drinking and closing her mouth. The good news from our trusted vet at Anaheim Animal Care was that the tumor was not wrapped around her jaw and therefore removable. The bad news was that it was growing quickly and Chiquita’s kidney levels were not good. If we waited any longer to proceed, her kidney levels could worsen and disqualify her as a candidate for surgery. Additionally, we were told the tumor would continue to grow until Chiquita would simply no longer be able to eat or drink at all. We left the final decision on how to proceed with her Mom, who we knew was afraid to lose her, and were relieved when she consented to the procedure which we covered in full at a cost of $1681.96. Chiquita handled surgery like a champ and her Mom is incredibly grateful for everyone who donated to support a chance for her girl to live pain free! Moving forward RTR will continue to monitor Chiquita’s kidney issues and support the prescription food and medication needed to help keep her healthy in her senior years.

We also keep up with Chiquita’s little bro Buddy to be sure he has all the basic necessities!

CICI

Real Time Rescue was able to provide her Mama, who is living outdoors in LA and struggles with her mental health, with an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) certification and vest for Cici as well as a new leash and cat food!

cici.jpg

A few lovely folks reached out to help with these costs, including a man who some time ago was without housing himself and struggling to pay for his Bulldog’s much needed surgery. With nowhere to turn, he was lucky to cross paths with RTR’s now VP who helped raise funds for his beloved pup’s medical needs. He’s never forgotten that kindness and now that he is off the streets, he’s happy to pay it forward for others struggling to care for their animals!

TSUNAMI

This baby girl LOVES toys. Besides providing her Mama with the dog food she needs to keep Tsunami healthy, we also do our best to bring her the finer things in life, like these stuffies. Every time our Real Time Rescue volunteer rolls up, she comes to show off how well she’s been taking care of her toys in his absence. We love seeing her show off!

MICLOS

This eleven year old pup and his owner have been a part of the RTR family before there was even a rescue. Founder Seana Cormack has been looking out for this Marine Veteran and his service dog companion for many years. Unfortunately, these two are also currently living outdoors in Orange County. So when we checked up on them recently and heard that Miclos had been having some breathing issues that were getting worse over time, we sponsored a trip to the vet for chest X-rays and received confirmation it was bronchitis. He was prescribed antibiotics and a bronchodilator and we will return everyone for any necessary rechecks. While there, we also got Miclos updated on vaccines, microchipped and on flea and tick meds!

This pair has been inseparable since Miclos was a puppy and we’re happy to be able to do our part to help keep Miclos comfortable in his senior years. (He also received a shiny new vest, which we think accentuates his dashing good looks!)

TOOTER

We met this little 5-month old love one HOT Summer day when we teamed up with Blooming Culture to hand out CBD ice cream near Downtown LA and Skid Row. Besides this welcome cold treat we also provided kibble and flea shampoo. We expect to hear from this growing girl’s Dad when time comes for her spay surgery!

GORDO

We met this handsome fella and his Papa the same night as D.O.G. Although his ailments weren’t quite as time sensitive or serious, he needed to be seen by a vet for a nasty ear infection ASAP. After a deep ear cleaning, a shot of antibiotics, vaccines & a microchip, this boy was back in the loving arms of his person!

& unexpected PUPPIES OAKLEY, TUCKER and
TATUM

Fast forward 6 months and we come to find out good ol’ Oscie was responsible for a litter of puppies! We swooped in, scheduled him to be neutered, spayed the Mama- a neighbor’s Pittie mix- and quickly found trusted homes for Tucker and Oakley- who will grow up to be over 80lb! It wasn’t until several weeks after the boys left us that Tatum came our way. She had been taken from her Mama early in life, but then returned very underweight, which is when we stepped in. She is now fattening up and learning how to dog in a loving foster home with children and other animals where she gets another chance at building trust with a family. This puppy crew has been the sweetest and we are so happy we have been able to provide them with the opportunity for the best life moving forward!

IMG_6246.JPG

OSCAR, aka Oscie

Oscar is a Pitbull mix who lives in Twentynine Palms with his Mama, who is a single mother that has been hit by hard times and recently laid off. We were contacted for assistance after Animal Control was called to for a welfare check on Oscar. It seemed that he was a little skinny and outside for long hours on a tether. The truth of the matter is that this kind, funny, compassionate mother is struggling on her own to make ends meet. The day we showed up on her doorstep, she told us she was going to borrow money to feed Oscar that very day. She knew that Animal Control had come by while she was away (at a job interview) and was worried she would have to surrender him to the shelter. Oscar is loved by her and her children, who sweetly call him Oscie. This family deserved to stay together, so with funds donated to our ‘Word on the Street’ program, we outfitted Oscar with food, treats and a comfy bed and continue to send dog food monthly to ensure this family doesn’t have to choose between feeding their boy and giving him up.

DOMINO

We met this sweet thing while out with one of our community partners, Brown Bag Lady. All Domino was in need of this time around was a few extra pets from volunteers and oral flea meds. We were able to get her what she needed and plan to to be back regularly to check on them in case their needs change!

BELLA & DIXIE

We met these ladies and their Dad near East Hollywood at the start of Summer, in the ramp up to flea season. Happy to be able to get them the medication they needed to stay flea free. Plus they’ll be meeting with a vet on us, to be sure they are up to date on important annual vaccines to prevent from future sicknesses like Rabies, Kennel Cough, Distemper and Parvo.

MILO UPDATE! Getting bigger and doing just fine- We check back in with our growing WOTS puppies often to make sure they have everything they need to grow up healthy and happy!

BABY BOY MILO

The RTR Board was introduced to Milo when he was only 8 weeks old and his owner was in need of all the puppy basics after his belongings were stolen! Since providing the initial round of food and flea meds, we have followed up with more supplies as well as covered the cost of his puppy boosters! Soon enough it will be time for him to be neutered, which we will also sponsor in full.

LIL’ FATTY

A friend of RTR checks in with this good old boy and his owner in Inglewood regularly. We’re happy to keep this volunteer stocked with any supplies needed to make sure this pup stays fed, collared and flea free!

IMG_4901.JPG

We met Syco and his big sister Diamond at a gas station in the Los Angeles area where his mom was begging for food and money. One of our board members saw them and pulled over to offer help and support. That day they were given flea medication and the next week we brought back leashes, collars, dog bones and treats. We were also able to get dog booties donated for Diamond, who we were told burns her feet pads on the ground during the summer time when it's hot. Diamond is already spayed and vaccinated, but Syco needed his vaccines and micrcochip. We are happy to report we were able to take Syco to our trusted rescue vet to get this completed for him. He is not yet neutered, but we will continue to encourage his mom to let us get this done for him when she is ready. Thanks to ‘Word on the Street’ donations, we continue to stay in touch and offer our support to the three of them with the basic supplies of food and water regularly.

TUGBOAT HANK

When we first met 13 year old Hank, he was in serious need of a burst tumor removal on his side (and a diet change). His disabled and elderly Mama reached out to see if Real Time Rescue could help with the cost of his surgery, since he was suffering and she did not have the funds to cover it. Our ‘Word on the Street’ fund paid for surgery and continued for nearly a year to send him healthy and nutritious food monthly to keep that pugalicious bod in shape! When his Mama called on us again, it was clear it was time to say goodbye to her dear old boy and we helped make that as peaceful for them both as possible. Although he will be sorely missed, we know he led the best of lives!

BABE BEEZY

IMG_4900.jpg

We met Beezy and her Mama next to a freeway off ramp in the Los Angeles area, where they were begging for food and money. One of our board members saw them and pulled over to offer help and support. Beezy has been living with her mom for a year and was in need of vet care and supplies. Over the course of a few weeks we were able to provide her with a new harness, leash, flea medication, bones, chew toys and treats. We asked if we could offer free veterinary support and she happily said YES! Thanks to our ‘Word on the Street’ funding, we were able to transport both Beezy and her Mama to our trusted vet, where Beezy was spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, fecal tested, completed urinalysis, dewormed and given a once over on her ears and teeth. We continue to do regular check ins with this duo who are both so grateful to have this care and support. In turn they have also helped us to speak to others in the homeless community about the importance of spay and neutering!
