SALOME
Salome has spent years navigating life on the streets of Los Angeles alongside her family, enduring the physical toll of multiple litters while “free roaming” her neighborhood community. Despite the challenges of the ongoing City sweeps, our team—working in partnership with Northeast Neighborhood Outreach (NENO) —successfully transported Salome to our trusted veterinary partner for care.
She boarded for a full week to undergo her spay procedure and begin recovery. Severely underweight from repeated pregnancies and nursing, Salome required careful monitoring to regain strength, restore healthy body weight, and allow her milk supply to safely dry up.
This collaborative effort represents more than a single medical intervention—it marks a meaningful step toward breaking the heartbreaking and endless cycle of street litters we witness daily across Los Angeles. We are deeply grateful to the dedicated NENO volunteers whose persistence and compassion made Salome’s new chapter possible.
CHASE
Chase spent years surviving on the streets of Los Angeles alongside his devoted mother, becoming something of a neighborhood legend. When community members were asked which dog most urgently needed to be neutered, the response was unanimous: Chase. Known affectionately as the “Romeo” of the streets, he had fathered numerous litters, contributing to the ongoing cycle of overpopulation so often seen among free-roaming dogs in the area.
In partnership with Northeast Neighborhood Outreach (NENO), our team acted swiftly to ensure Chase was safely transported to a trusted veterinary clinic, where he was successfully neutered. This timely intervention represents an important step in preventing countless future litters and supporting the broader effort to reduce street homelessness among animals in Los Angeles.
Today, Chase and his mother are thriving indoors in City-provided housing—safe, secure, and finally able to enjoy the comfort and stability they deserve. We are grateful for the collaborative spirit that made this possible and look forward to the continued positive strides ahead for this resilient pair.
NOVA
Nova’s journey with Real Time Rescue is one that remains especially close to our hearts. We were first contacted by Nova’s devoted mom—a woman who, after experiencing incarceration and years of homelessness on the streets of Los Angeles, courageously rebuilt her life, secured housing, and committed herself to creating a stable future. When she welcomed Nova into her care, it marked a new beginning for them both.
Born in a homeless encampment and raised alongside her littermates on the streets, Nova’s transition indoors was not without challenges. Shortly after coming home, she began experiencing vomiting and severe diarrhea. Recognizing the urgency of the symptoms, Board VP Summer Parker immediately suspected Parvovirus and ensured Nova was tested without delay. The diagnosis was confirmed.
What followed was a testament to resilience and unwavering love. Nova endured weeks of recovery from Parvo—a life-threatening illness—while Real Time Rescue provided comprehensive in-home medical support, critical treatment supplies, and high-quality nutrition to help her regain strength. Through attentive care and determination, Nova pulled through.
Once fully recovered, her mom reached out again to ensure Nova’s continued health and stability. We were honored to arrange her spay procedure and vaccinations, securing a healthier future and preventing the cycle of unwanted litters so common among dogs born on the streets.
Today, Nova is thriving—growing quickly, living safely indoors, and surrounded by love. Her story reflects not only the power of intervention and community support, but the extraordinary bond between a woman rebuilding her life and the puppy who now shares it with her.
LUCKY
Lucky’s journey is one marked by loss, resilience, and the profound bond between a dog and his devoted owner. After the passing of her mother, Lucky’s mom reached out to Real Time Rescue Board Vice President Summer Parker for assistance. Lucky had long been a shared companion between mother and daughter, a steady source of comfort in their two-income household. With her mother’s passing, the family structure—and financial stability—shifted dramatically, leaving Lucky’s mom navigating grief while living on permanent disability income.
Amid this transition, she longed to continue giving Lucky a full and enriching life—trips to the dog beach and visits to local parks that would bring both of them moments of peace and normalcy. However, without being neutered, these outings became increasingly difficult, and the cost of surgery was simply beyond her reach.
Understanding both the emotional and practical importance of this request, our team acted swiftly to ensure Lucky received his neuter procedure. He recovered beautifully, and the impact has extended far beyond the surgery itself. Today, Lucky’s mom is able to take him out confidently, reconnect with her community, and find comfort in shared adventures that help ease the weight of her loss.
Lucky’s story is a reminder that sometimes a single medical intervention can restore not only access and opportunity—but healing, dignity, and hope.
